Topic 74 deals with the significance of the results from a study. More specifically, the practical significance. This PowerPoint goes over tips for determining practical significance by considering 5 things: cost-benefit analysis, crucial difference, client acceptability, public and political acceptability, and ethical and legal implications.
I found your PowerPoint very helpful in breaking down the information presented on topic 74. I commented on topic 68 about the t-test, and I think it is engaging how these two topics relate. Usually, a t-test is more likely to be significant if the difference between the two means is large. But if there is a large sample with slight variation among the participants, even minor differences can be considered statistically significant. For example, having a little more or little less medicine than prescribed can change the intended effect by not working or, in some cases, being deadly. A small difference, in some cases, can be of great practical significance. The textbook explains this with a different example on page 257 under the “Note” section.
Hey Ryan, I thought your presentation over topic 74 was great! You had excellent information!
Ryan, great presentation! I agree with our reading and your post that cost-benefit analysis, crucial difference, client acceptability, public and political acceptability, and ethical and legal implications need to be evaluated for significance in information for research and other purposes.
