General Information:

Ubisoft is one of the industry leading companies when it comes to the video game market. The company was founded in 1986 by five brothers, which has grown into a colossal company with over 19,000 employees spanning across over 20 countries and over 40 office locations (Ubisoft Company, 2021) . Ubisoft has been highly innovative as video game technology has advanced and  have developed and released multiple massively successful video games such as Rayman, Just Dance, Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed, and many more (Our Story, 2021).

 

Why am I interested?

Being a Computer Networking major, I have always had a love for technology. With this love for technology, also comes a love for video games. I have been  playing video games for as long as I can remember and some of my favorite games of all time have actually been Ubisoft games. After researching career options through Ubisoft, I have found that they offer great benefits such as, paid time off to volunteer, paid parental leave, fitness, physical, and esports challenge reimbursements, and  more. I feel like if I could work for Ubisoft, I would be invested and passionate about my job because it is directly involving one of my favorite hobbies. On top of the actual job duties, the benefits sound expansive and great to have.

 

Questions for Employer:

1. A lot of your job listings are positions on a certain game project, once the project is completed, would I be reassigned to a new project or would I have to reapply and potentially not be employed by your company anymore?
2. Considering the number of offices you have, would my job always be in the location I get hired to or would I be expected to relocate to one of the other offices at some point?
3. Since developing a video game is very complex and requires a lot of different skills and talents, how connected are you to your coworkers that are working on the same project as you but may be working on a different aspect of the project?

General Information:

Jobot is a relatively new online employment finder/recruiting service. What differentiates Jobot from similar online services is the implementation of AI technology to help both employers and potential employees to the individual/job that works best for them (About Jobot, 2021). Jobot hires its own job recruiters to help employers find the right potential employees for their company and  their open positions. This service was founded by Heidi Golledge who has won two “Entrepreneur of the Year” awards and  was the co-founder of two other companies before Jobot(About Jobot, 2021). Jobot is not only a place that employers can go to post their open positions, but focuses on making the process as easy and successful as possible working for both the employer and the employees benefit.

 

Why am I interested?

I find the idea of implementing AI technology into a job recruiting service to be really intriguing and think that it could make the lives of everyone using the service easier. I would feel that helping people find jobs that suit them as best as possible would be very rewarding and help motivate me to do my best at my job. As well as a rewarding job, the benefits offered at Jobot are very appealing as well. They give their employees every other Friday off so all their employees get 26 three day weekends a year. As well as three day weekends, their health insurance is top notch and covers 100% of your costs and 50% of your family’s costs.

 

Questions for the Employer:

1. Since I would be applying for an IT related job, would I be involved with any of our clients in any way or would I be exclusively focused on the back end of the operation?
2. If my job is exclusively working on the IT aspects of the company, is in-person work required 100% of the time or are there opportunities for working remotely?
3. I noticed the three day weekends and medical benefits were listed on the job posting but did not see anything about paid time off, what is your paid time off policy? Also, what is your unpaid time off policy as well?

 

 

 

3. Electronic Arts (EA)

General Information:

Electronic Arts (EA) is yet another huge video game company. They are based out of California and had a total net revenue of over $5 billion in 2021(Electronic Arts, 2021). EA was founded in 1982 and have multiple video games and video game series that are considered gaming staples to many plays across the world. Some examples of their games are FIFA, Madden NFL, The Sims series, the Battlefield series, and many, many more. Not only do they develop games, but they also provide online services for games and consoles that keep players connected and playing whenever they want.

 

Why am I interested?

Much like Ubisoft, EA is a company that I have been a customer of for many years. Being able to be a part of a team making a game/games that will bring entertainment to countless people would keep me motivated and focused on helping create a perfect product for the customers that are excited for its release. As well as already being a fan of EA, they offer some great benefits as well. Aside from standard benefits that you find at most jobs, EA gives their employees a console allowance for new consoles, 10 free games per year, flexible work scheduling, and more. The benefits as well as the content of my work would keep me excited and entertained by the work I put out.

Questions for Employer:

 

1. I would be most interested in the Network Programmer position, would my focus be on a specific game or would I be working on multiple games on an “as needed” basis?
2. I saw that you offered remote work but the positions were listed as remote, if you apply for a job that isn’t listed as remote, is there still remote working opportunities available?
3. In the listing it says that you have flexible work hours, what does that flexibility look like and what paid time off opportunities does EA have?

 

4. Rockstar Games

General Information:

Rockstar Games is yet another massive video game company. Like the others on my potential employer list, it was also founded in the 80’s but is the most recent of the 3 being founded in 1988. Rockstar Games is owned by Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. which is a company most famously known for the NBA 2K series. Rockstar is most well-known from its Grand Theft Auto series but has also released other widely successful games such as Red Dead Redemption, Midnight Club, and Bully. They have often been known to “push the limits” of what they put in their video games. Games like Grand Theft Auto has been controversial for years due to its graphic nature and themes, their games Manhunt 1 and Manhunt 2 were also extremely controversial for the over the top violence it displayed and ended up having to be censored due to its graphic violence. Despite controversy, Grand Theft Auto V is one of the best-selling games of all time creating a massive fan base for Rockstar Games.

 

Why am I interested?

Like the other video game companies on this list, I have also been a fan of Rockstar Games for many years and enjoy playing their games often. What interests me about Rockstar Games apart from the others on this list is that most of their games are created for a mature audience and I feel like this would lead to a more relaxed approach when thinking of new ideas and interactions in the workplace. I think this job would also keep me on my toes because they have a 24/7 on call employee rotation to monitor the status of their network with its games relying heavily on online functionality and having a large player base. Being a part of the team working on games that I have enjoyed playing for years would keep me invested and entertained with my work.

 

Questions for the Employer:

1. I saw that with a job focusing on the networking of the games requires some 24/7 on call shifts, if I got called for an issue could I work remotely on the issue or am I required to come into the office when a call is received?
2. Would there be any opportunities for me to work on current and future game projects or would I be unaffiliated with any one game and just work on the general IT issues as they arise?
3. In the job listings there was nothing related to expected hours, benefits, or pay, what paid time off policy or benefits do you offer your employees?
