KSN

Address: 833 N Main ST Wichita, KS 67203
Home Page: https://www.ksn.com/
Phone: Main phone – (316) 265-3333.
Contact Person: Rachel Sommerfeld – News Director – rachel.sommerfeld@ksn.com.
Other information: I was unable to find a direct number to contact the recruitment or human resources department at KSN. However, I think that with the company’s general number and the news director’s contact information, I would be able to get in touch with someone at KSN who could point me towards the kind of opportunities that KSN has available. Also, under the “Jobs” tab on ksn.com I was able to find the Workday posting for jobs at KSN.
About the Company:
KSN is a news and entertainment television channel located in Wichita which broadcasts to areas throughout Kansas. This new channel is owned by Nexstar Media Group Inc (BIA/Kelsey, n.d). The KSN channel includes the early afternoon news program Kansas Today at 6 am, the KSN News at 10 pm news broadcast, and KSN’s online news (TitanTV, 2019).
Why I am Interested :
One thing that draws me to a career with KSN is that all of these programs could provide me with an opportunity to use the journalism and writing skills that I have gained during my college studies to shed light on state and local issues. Working with KSN will allow me to cover local issues in our communities where other more prominent media outlets will primarily push Kansas state and local news to the wayside because of their national perspective.
Questions to Ask at Interview:
- What type of stories and news does KSN focus on? Does your company lean mores towards politics, entertainment, local color, in their coverage?
- What opportunities would I have to advance within the company? Do you have a process and a system where I can continue to develop my journalistic skills and gain more responsibility and independence over the course of my career?
- What do you see as the company’s goals and the role that the position that I am applying for will play in meeting those goals?

Also, there is a jobs tab on the nbc.com website that takes you to https://www.nbcunicareers.com/ to apply and search for open positions.
About the Company:
The New York City-based Today Show is the NBC Network’s flagship morning news program focusing on nationwide entertainment and politics. The Today Show’s content leans towards lighter and more fluffy human interest topics like trending news stories, travel, and social life. The hit news show reaches millions of people on its broadcast that airs from 7 am to 11 am and even more people through its website and apps (NBC, n.d.).
Why I am Interested:
What draws me to the Today Show is its focus on human interest stories that veer away from the negativity associated with modern media. A job with the Today Show would allow me to use the journalism skills I have been building throughout my time in college to spend more time working on the type of light entertainment news that is one of my big journalistic passions.
Questions to Ask at Interview:
- I understand that the Today Show’s anchors are the public face of your brand. What type of journalistic positions do you have that would give me a chance to build some behind the scenes experience while I work at further building my experience both with journalism and with your company?
- How do you see the company’s focus changing over the next several years? Do you think any of these changes will affect the content that the Today Show is wanting to deliver and how would that affect the type of position that I am applying for and the type of content I would need to deliver to your company?
- How could the journalism skills I have developed so far and the type of stories that I have covered so far be used to help the Today Show create news that meets the needs of its audience?

However, at the bottom of the website there is a “Work with us” tab that takes you to another page where you can then search and apply for specific jobs.
About the Company:
The New York City-based New York Times is one of America’s leading print and internet news sources covering subjects ranging from politics to movies to lifestyle(The New York Times, 2021). - How is journalism structured within your company? For example, are politics and entertainment located under totally separate departments or does your content provide opportunities for lighter news and more serious news to intersect and build off of each other’s cultural insights?
- What opportunities do you have for me to advance within your company? Are there lower-level positions in which I could contribute to the organization while I work to further build my journalistic skills?
- What type of journalistic opportunities does your company provide? In addition to your typical focus on national-level politics do you also have any positions covering state and local events and culture?
E! Network

Address: NBC’s corporate address is 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY 10112 United States.
Home Page: https://www.eonline.com/
Phone: (323) 954-2400. Email – appsupport@eentertainment.com
Contact Person: N/A. The E! website does not provide a specific contact person for recruitment or human resources purposes.
Other information: I was unable to find a direct number to contact the recruitment or human resources department at E!. However, alongside E!’s email address, I was also able to find NBC’s career page at https://www.nbcunicareers.com/. With these resources, I should be able to point myself in the right direction to find employment opportunities with E!.
About the Company:
E! is an entertainment news television network owned by NBC that features pop culture and celebrity news and events. In addition to its television broadcasts, E! also has a heavy online presence with its website featuring numerous entertainment news articles and videos (List Partners, Inc., n.d.).
Why I am Interested:
As one of America’s premier sources for entertainment and pop culture news, E! would be excellent for someone like me, who loves soft celebrity and lifestyle news, to work and apply my journalistic abilities. It would be similar to working for Today in terms of avoiding the negativity often associated with media and journalism but would also provide me with more freedom to cover stories and events that might be seen as too adult to be appropriate for Today’s tone.
Questions to Ask:
- What are your ethics in regards to covering celebrity and entertainment news? What type of tone and style would I need to take on in order to keep my work consistent with the type of image and content that you would want me to produce?
- With your network being part of NBC’s wider offerings, will a position with E! open up future opportunities with NBC and provide me with the chance to diversify both my skills and my range of future employment options?
- Do you offer any internship or apprenticeship opportunities which I could use to learn the standards, practices, and ethics involved in working with your organization and later transition to a more involved and independent role?
