Walmart Pay

Many people seem hesitant to adopt is the use of mobile payment methods. Walmart announced its new feature Walmart Pay that became available to select stores in December of 2015. I first learned about the technology when shopping at Walmart, but it was not yet available at my location. With my previous experiences, I tend not to worry about my card information being compromised as I know I can rely on my bank to handle any necessary disputes so I decided to be an early adopter of the new technology as soon as it was available at my location.

When I first began using Walmart Pay in 2016, I appreciated the convenience that I no longer needed to take my wallet and I could instead just take my phone. In the beginning I had a few issues with the app and they began to inconvenience me more than bringing in my wallet and using my credit card, so I stopped using the app. After about 6 months I decided that I missed the convenience enough that I would give it another try. I began to become familiar with the “tricks” needed in order to avoid the problems I had previously experienced. Fortunately, the developers and continually made improvements to the app and many of the issues I had experienced are no longer an issue.

I would say that I have reached stage five, Confirmation. The innovation makes shopping with the same place so simple and convenient as well as returns. The app also keeps track of my purchases so that I can easily re-order items. Thanks to COVID-19, the app has almost made it extremely easy to shop online and pick-up at the store. In a life full of business, convenience makes a tremendous difference for me.

An innovation that I had reached stage four, Implementation, but never reached stage five of Confirmation would be Twitter. I would consider myself to be part of the Late Majority of adoption for Twitter. I stayed in stages Persuasion and Decision for a long time before moving forward with the implementation. I began using the app as I felt pressure from peers who were also using it, but I didn’t find the information that I was looking for or information that I was interested in. I continued to try using the innovation intermittently for maybe a month before I decided the innovation was not as useful to me personally and I stopped using the innovation.

About Kattia

My name is Kattia (pronounced Kuh-Tea-uh) and I live in rural Kansas with my husband, our two children, a dog, cat, skink, bearded dragon, and often other animals that my children like to capture and nurture. It's a great learning experience for us all! I also have two bonus children who we get to see regularly as well. I currently work full-time in technical support and I am attending Fort Hays working toward my bachelors degree in Information Networking with an emphasis in health informatics. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, and occasionally I find some time for leisure reading and crocheting.

  1. Hi Kattia,
I am very much in love with Apple Pay and Google Pay but I can’t get behind Walmart Pay. It seems like more work to me because I have to find the app, open the app and then pay. With Apple Pay, I just click on a button twice and I’m all set. I am in the Confirmation stage with Apple Pay.

    1. I’ve enjoyed Walmart pay, too, for quite a while. I love being able to scan my phone at a self-service line, scan my purchases, and walk away. I also think the corporation’s grocery pick-up service is convenient and cheaper than Dillons, the only other grocery chain in Hays.
