General Information: Automattic is the company behind wordpress.com, tumblr, WooCommerce, and many more. There are over 1,500 employees scattered throughout 84 countries working mostly remotely. They have a vision of making the web better and more open. The word Automattic is actually a play on words by the CEO, Matt Mullenweg.

Interest in Employer: My biggest interest in this employer is that it is a work from home position. They have a strong culture and promote a strong work/home life balance. They want to ensure that their employees are happy by providing an open vacation policy, wellness support, and sabbaticals. It can be hard finding companies that understand that someone who is happy at home, will probably be more productive at work. Gone are the days of working people like machines.

General Information: Balance innovations was initially founded in 2004 but was recently bought out by Brinks just a couple of years ago. They provide a cash management software that connects systems and devices to provide analytics and actionable data for retailers. (Balance Innovations, 2021) The software is found primarily in grocery stores but can be found in other retailers as well.

Interest in Employer: I thought it interesting that Brinks noticed this small little startup company and its software enough to purchase it. It would seem that despite being bought out by Brinks, they still operate as an individual company. I am including this because I actually just recently got hired on and was extremely interested in their “unlimited” vacation policy, remote opportunities, and growth opportunities.

• Has being purchased by Brinks helped grow the company in direction the CEO’s imagined it going?
• What are growth opportunities?
• What would current employees say about working for the company prior to the buy and after the acquisition?

Interest in Employer: My interest in this employer lies in the IT department. They boast a wonderful culture, community, and work perks. They move to make sure their employees have continual training and growth opportunities.

General Information: Erkios was created to protect sensitive data by combining physical and logical security innovation to delivery solutions to cybersecurity industry. They us a patented lock-in device that protects ports on a physical level while providing auditing capabilities through logging, monitoring, and alerting through a device called FortiFi. (Erkiios Systems Inc, 2021)

Interest in Employer: Cybersecurity is an ever-growing concern and security people must try and stay a step ahead of the hackers. It’s interesting that the device can send a notification to the cybersecurity team of a company alerting them to an attack. Another interesting tidbit is that the creators of this device are from Kansas.

• What is current growth look like?
• Will the job responsibilities stay consistent or change as the company grows?
