Adopting DUO Authentication

The first innovation I am going to talk about is something that we have seen adopted by FHSU. I’m sure that most everyone here has heard of DUO authentication, and most everyone here has also ignored it because DUO is a bit of a hassle and is optional for students. However, for student workers and faculty, it is required. As I am a student worker for FHSU, I have had to adopt this new technology. At the beginning, I was a bit hesitant, not even bothering to get it for my student account after the first push by FHSU a few years ago, but because it was required for my job I skipped all the way past the decision stage to the implementation stage for my student employee account. By now it has been almost two years since I first had to start using it for work, and right now I am in the confirmation stage, partially because I still need it for work, and partially because it really isn’t enough of a hassle to use that I would start thinking about pushing back against it. DUO, while being an extra step that makes logging onto my student worker account about 5 seconds longer, really isn’t all that bad. It exists and mildly inconveniences me occasionally.

As for the adopter stage, I see myself as in the late majority. I think this because DUO was being pushed by the university about two years or so before I was hired by FHSU, and I completely ignored the constant suggestions by the university for me to use it for my student account.

An example of innovations that I fit in a different category for is YouTube. I started using that in the early days, before 2010. Of course, I don’t see myself as an innovator, but I do see myself as an early adopter or early majority. I miss old YouTube.

Hi, I am Andrew Marek. I am a senior, and I probably spend way too much of my time playing video games than I should.
