Since the computers have been a thing there has always been a goal to find ways to better control them. A mouse and keyboard are a direct result to this process. As time has gone on these tools have continued to be updated and changed to help better the user experience. Gaming has been at the forefront when it comes to innovation both for keyboards and mice. The first time I realized this was back in 2013 when I bought my first mouse for gaming, the SteelSeries Rival. This mouse was about as close to trying to use a baseball as a mouse compared to todays standards, but at this time I was an early adopter. This mouse had a specific sensor made for gaming and was one of the first of its kind. This was a wired mouse that weighed in at 128 grams.

Throughout the years since then I’ve continued to follow the innovation of gaming mice in 2016, I moved on to the Scream One, From FinalMouse. To compare the difference in weight alone this mouse was wired and weighed in at 81 grams. Over the span of three years a gaming mouse was able to cut its weight by 47 grams while adding in an even more precise sensor.
Then in 2018 I moved on to the Ultralight Pro, the best new gaming mouse. This mouse had an even better sensor while still being a wired mouse and weighed in at 67 grams. I continued to use this mouse until 2019 when I bought the Ultralight 2 a mouse that weighs a ridiculous 46 grams as a wired mouse. At this point you could have used a Scream One and an Ultralight 2 and it would weigh less together than a mouse from 2013.
This is where things got interesting as sensors continued to get better the world of gaming mice hit a breakthrough. They were finally able to make mice that were wireless and able to compete at the highest level with wired mice. The main issue with wireless mice is the weight of the receiver and the weight of batteries. That’s why for a very long time they were written off as options. Then there was one that finally was able to get passed all the issues with wireless mice. My current mouse and the best gaming mouse out there. The FinalMouse Starlight-12 a mouse made of machined magnesium the first of its kind. Weighing in at 42 grams it is the first fully wireless mouse under 50 grams with the best sensor on the market.
Over the past the past 8 years I’ve fully worked my way through all five of the stages. Prior to buying my first gaming mouse I was working through Awareness and Persuasion. Then I made the Decision, I bought my first mouse and started seeing all the advantages. Over the nest few years and iterations of mice I continued implementing new devices based off weight and their sensors. That leads us to today where I have fully confirmed that using these mice and continuing to follow their development is the right choice.
As mentioned prior I was an early adopter for this technology. As this technology continued to develop, I moved closer to being an innovator, and today I would consider myself as an innovator.
Matthew, it was super cool to see your progression throughout your gaming years. I myself am a gamer as well and it is pretty amazing the difference between mice and the advantages they provide. I was a console player for a long time but recently started practicing with a keyboard and mouse. Even from console controller to the new controls, it’s a major difference and advantage. How long did it take you to get used to each new one?
The last three mice I’ve switched to have very similar shapes so the only difference is weight. Getting use to different weights takes a few days usually.
It is very interesting to see how mice have become so much more advanced. I do not game on PC however I see how a high-quality mouse is necessary for a better gaming experience.
