One aspect of technology that is becoming increasingly popular is Internet of Things (IoT). This is the implementation of numerous “things” having built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, meaning they can connect to the internet and to each other. Today, we see many new things with this capability such as home appliances (i.e. security cameras, microwave ovens, refrigerators, Televisions etc.), cars and so on.
Being in the I.T field myself and offering support to individuals, I tend to keep myself abreast of new technology so I can be of better assistance. Researching different devices on the market and in development is how I became knowledgeable of IoT clients. There are five (5) stages of adoption being knowledge/awareness, persuasion, decision, implementation, confirmation/continuation. I am definitely in the confirmation/continuation stage of adoption. I own smart TVs, appliances etc. which makes life, for me at least, much easier and will continue to do so. Having reached the final adoption phase, I would consider myself in the early majority adopter category. I prefer to wait until the early adopters review products of interest, allow them to be the “test dummies” and then if I like what I see, purchase/utilize the product. Today, an example of early adopters can be those that create product videos on YouTube whilst the early majority are the ones that watch with the mindset of making a purchase.
