Stages of Adoption
Progressive Web Applications are an advancement I only recently became familiar with due to my web development classes. I would currently consider myself to be at the Implementation stage. I am currently working towards mastering this new skill and incorporating the innovation into my everyday work. It is something I both must and wish to reach the Confirmation stage with, seeing as I need to know the related skills to be a successful web developer and keep up with modern development standards. That, and it’s a very interesting way of creating software.
Adopter Categories
I would consider the current wave of web developers adopting progressive web applications, including myself, to be early adopters. I would consider the Innovators to be those who created the frameworks in the first place, but I don’t think the innovation has spread far enough or reached enough people to classify the current wave of learners as the early majority.
I would say that in learning “newer” JavaScript frameworks, such as ReactJS, I would be part of the late majority. It is mostly because of the timing of my entering school and learning the relevant web development skills that I was behind the curve in gaining knowledge about such frameworks.
You make some very good points here in your blog post. I think that, especially in your line of work with web design, being an early adopter is important. I think this because being able to pump out solid websites that are always catering to newer design rules is important to ensuring company and user satisfaction at the end of the day. If I were far better at making websites, I think I would also put myself in the innovation stage and around early adopters of these ideas just to make sure websites are always optimal and look the best at all times.
However, with my topic, I felt a bit more weary about implementation. I am researching into Automated Vehicles, and I felt like anything that is supposed to help keep our lives safe is worth putting a lot of research into before feeling fully confident in them. I put myself a little bit further back the scale, saying that I am not fully ready to accept them as a part of my life just yet, but I am not arguably against them. So I must ask: How do you feel about them? Where would you be on that scale?
Fin, I enjoyed your blog post. It is very interesting to see how these frameworks are continually being updated and changed as well as new developments are being created entirely. These allow for increased functionality, better security, and the ability to write much simpler code. I think these frameworks can sometimes take longer to be adopted than many other forms of technologies however they can offer much more when implemented and they become widely adopted.
