Hi, I am Andrew Marek. I am a senior, and am currently a computer networking and telecommunications major. I am 21 years old, I enjoy gaming far more than is probably healthy for me, and I also hope to work in the computer support field when I graduate.
I’m sure nearly everyone in this class has heard the spiel “Get off the computer and get your homework done”, but my question is can we dive deeper into this? Anyone can say that a form of media that doesn’t actively teach or reinforce the ideas that one learns in the classroom might be a hindrance to education, but as with all things in life, I believe that video games, and other media that takes the heat for hindering education, can be quite helpful as well. Furthermore, with the advances that we have been seeing in computers, gaming, and education in general, I believe that this question has become even more important as ever.
I definitely feel this a good topic to research about as I’ve been curious of similar things. Video games expose us to different types of dialogue and scenarios that can genuinely influence just like the story of a book. Plus I do definitely feel video games helped me a lot with reading when I was younger so you could very well be right! Good luck if you do research this.
Great topic for this class, Andrew!
