Your interest in the employer because of this research: Make a special note of anything you find unusual about each company. This could be a product or service it provides that you did not know about.

      • Barkley believes that your brand is connected through every aspect of the design model. They call this the “red thread” which is to say that creativity and brand voice should connect every part of business. Who a brand is at the core should be woven into every aspect of a business
      • They have produced three different books for creative professionals trying to build their own brand – they have workshops available as well. I have known about the company for awhile now and they are on my dream employer list, but I had no idea they had those resources on top of typical design services. My research into this company has furthered my desire to work for them.

Questions to Help You Succeed: If called for an interview, what questions would you like to ask the potential employer based on what you learned from your research? What additional questions will you use to denote a clear interest in the company? (There are tons of tips for developing questions on the Internet.)

      • How do you measure the success of your employees?
      • What is a 5 year goal of Barkley?
      • How inclusive is the culture at Barkley? How are virtual employees included so they don’t feel disconnected from the company?
      • Sometimes being a creative can be very draining. Do teams ever experience creative blocks? And if so, how do you overcome that creative exhaustion?

      • They have a yearly employee conference called Knit Con where instead of working, they have the chance to learn different skills or make stuff together through interactive workshops. I suppose it would be ironic if a company like Pinterest didn’t do something like this, but none the less, it’s still a cool way for employees to get to know each other over shared experiences that don’t involve work
      • They seem to care a lot about global impact and wellbeing which is another big plus

Questions to Help You Succeed:

      • How do you measure the success of your employees?

  1. Abigail,
I enjoyed your selection of companies and the theme of design shows your personal interests well! The information you have on Pinterest is interesting to me because I have never put much thought into the reach that they have as a social site. 300 million users is impressive and speaks to the influence that they have with advertisers and designers to highlight new trends. It also seems hard to believe that it has been in operation for over ten years and an app for most of that, that is positive longevity for sure!
