Week 13 Final Search – Automating Saving Lives

My topic is about artificial intelligence in healthcare and how it is used, issues that have arised, and what could be next. It is important for me to be able to get a sense of all of these things in many different fields of healthcare, because as you can imagine it is used differently in different situations.

Annotated Bibliography #1

The text explains the changes that have been happening in healthcare for years. It shows that healthcare is moving towards value based care and that the care that our children will receive will likely be much different than ours. It puts into perspective how these are not the first major changes in the healthcare system, 50 years ago doctors would have never imagined mobile devices that assist in healthcare, or wearable technology. After realizing that we have sort of been here before it seems that we will transition with all of these changes fairly seamlessly. It explains that as technology advances there will be more and more tools for each individual to be able to track their health and take care of themselves without the need of as many doctor visits. Which we will be able to largely attribute to AI.

Chatburn R.L., & Mireles-Cabodevila E (2013). Chapter 3. basic principles of ventilator design. Tobin M.J.(Ed.), Principles and Practice of Mechanical Ventilation, 3e. McGraw Hill. https://accessmedicine-mhmedical-com.ezproxy.fhsu.edu/content.aspx?bookid=520&sectionid=41692239

Annotated Bibliography #2

The text talks about ventilators and how they are designed and what they are used for. It goes into great depth and detail and explains every aspect of how it works. It is also talking about what to expect from machines such as a ventilator in the future. With the help of artificial intelligence it would be able to make better targeting systems for these machines. This would allow the machines to automate the output a patient needs from moment to moment, this way the machine is ensuring the best possible care 24/7 based on the data that it is receiving. This is only one way that artificial intelligence will change and better out healthcare systems.

Annotated Bibliography #3

This chapter talks about how artificial intelligence is changing the way that we also receive health info about patients and will continue to change. We already have devices that we can wear that track our heartbeat, blood oxygen level, steps, calories, etc. and we can already have this info shared with our physicians. With enough data it explains the endless possibilities such as finding the absolute best clinical trial for a cancer patient in a matter of seconds.

This article talks about how glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world, which for me was absolutely shocking as I just did not know this. However, it goes in depth on how computer-aided diagnosis systems are very useful and can be very helpful in detecting it at earlier stages.

Annotated Bibliography #5

This article explains how early detection and classification of bone tumors in the proximal femur is very important for a successful treatment. It explains how the artificial intelligence based model was able to show very high performance in classifying the tumors. It shows why AI technology could possibly reduce misdiagnosis from doctors that are not specialists.

Have you reached Saturation?

I believe that I am saturated with sources and info, however not saturated in a bad way. I think it will prove to be very benficials to have all of these sources and information already. I feel that some of the hardest parts I will come across will be deciding the order everything needs to go in to get my point across the best and most effective.
