This position piqued my interest because I feel it would be a solid starting point for my IT career. Under the direction of the Infrastructure and Technology Service Desk Supervisor, I would troubleshoot any issue related to software and hardware. This role is an essential component to ensuring end users are up to date with the use of new IT equipment and software, which is essentially the position I imagined beginning my career with. In addition to seeing an ideal job description, learning that this hospital was awarded quality awards for achieving Digital Health Certified Acute Level 8 and Digital Health Certified Ambulatory Level 8 by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives while doing my research sold me even more on this job. CHIME evaluates how effectively healthcare organizations apply technologies to their clinical and business programs to improve healthcare in their communities. I had not previously known about a brokerage with a cloud-based model, which is why this opening attracted my interest. In addition, the possibility of working remotely from anywhere gives me the opportunity to apply for this position without worrying about the possibility of relocation. This could be a good starting point for my career in IT because it would give me remote working experience in the field that could prepare me for a future position that isn’t remote.

The responsibilities of this position involve driving to different clients’ locations and updating aging equipment. This could include switching out computers or printers. If I were to be offered this position, I would take advantage of the opportunity to interact with a diverse range of users and environments. I could see this position being a stepping point in my career. Working on computer hardware is something I have always been intrigued by, so I was naturally attracted to this job opening.

The position that is available is responsible for performing server maintenance. This includes but is not limited to, performing server reboots, daily server health checklists, software and application server upgrades, and maintaining server infrastructure. These responsibilities keep the server environment secure and stable. This opening piqued my interest because based on the minimum qualifications, it could be something I could pursue within the next two years.

  1. I enjoyed reading about all four of your potential employers, the one that caught my eye though was eXp reality. What stood out to me about it was the work from home concept. I do find it interesting that before the lockdowns, working from home was not very popularised. Now there are people where it is a priority when looking for a job, or it is at least an option. Of course, there are pros and cons to working from home, but I found your question about how will the training be delivered in a remote model, an interesting idea I have never thought about. I believe in the future more and more people will opt for working remotely and these are the obstacles we will have to learn to tackle.

  2. I also have had interest in working in a hospital in the IT department. I would recommend looking to “Informatics in the RN” its class that specializes in hospital technologies and could come in handy when applying to a hospital to work for. I took the class and gained very useful information from it.

  3. I worked I.T. helpdesk at a hospital for a few months. It pretty enjoyable most of the time to be honest. One thing I will say is that there is a decent chance you will be on call here and there to provide support unless there is a dedicated overnight I.T. person. Much of the technology needs to be up as much as possible so upgrades to server hardware have to be done overnight too. A lot of the software that hospitals use is specific to the medical industry and most schools do not have any programs that teach future I.T. Can be a tough job but it pays well, especially if you have more of an admirative role.

  4. Employer-provided training is always something to look out for! You don’t want to be confused when you go in to work. Sure, college prepares you, but employers know specifically what software they use and how to use it most efficiently.
