- National Geographic, founded in 1889, has been offering breaking news involving nature, science, and more to their audience. NatGeo strives to educate and involve their readers with television, radio, magazine, and several events/expeditions. National Geographic has tv channels in 172 countries, and their publications are offered in 41 different languages.
- I am interested in working at National Geographic because one of their magazines inspired me to pursue a career in journalism in the first place. Working here also encaptures who I am as a person/future journalist. I love both nature and photography, and of course writing articles to go along with the amazing pictures National Geographic publishes.
- Questions:
- What are the opportunities to work at partnering corporations of National Geographic?
- What kind of code of ethics is expected to be followed while developing stories?
- Are there opportunities to work from a certain location, such as where I would currently be living, and still create stories?
- I saw there are learning internships for students, do you offer any learning opportunities for employees?

- Contact person: I could not find a contact person because they run through iHeartMedia, but their website has several options on how to contact them regarding employment opportunities.
- KHVH is an AM radio station based in Honolulu, Hawaii. They focus on news/talk radio and provide news for all types of people.
- I chose KHVH radio station because I will soon be moving to Hawaii to follow my husband to his duty station. KHVH caught my attention because it incorporated real and important news while also including fun stories to give their listeners a laugh.
- Questions:
- Are there opportunities to move up the chain or is this a stay in one place kind of position?
- What are your rules for stories, how is the information collected?

- Sarah Moore, News Director
- ABC News has been running for about 76 years, providing all the news stories a person would need to start or end their day. They provide several different nighttime and daytime news broadcasts to cover all the bases.
- I chose ABC News as a potential employer because of the different opportunities they provide. If I wanted to pursue broadcast journalism, photojournalism, or if I wanted to travel and cover international news, ABC has all of that. ABC is one of the news channels I choose to watch (when I can). I think ABC as an employer would suit me based on their code of ethics and their news reporting.
- Questions:
- At the hiring point, would I be shadowing another employee or would I be expected to get going immediately on my own?
- Are there opportunities to become more proficient in my area, like shadowing or conferences?

- The first publication from NPG was in 1845, and is still going strong today. Those who work at NPG are expected to please customers, build strong communities, and keep up the reputation NPG has. They offer newspapers and broadcast in several states, including Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado.
- News-Press & Gazette caught my eye when I was doing research for another potential employer. I specifically was drawn to them because unlike any other news company, they still offer newspapers. While I know it is a dying breed, writing for newspapers would be a nice change up from writing for broadcast news or radio news.
- Questions
- How long do you expect to be printing newspapers?
- Do you also provide online versions of the print?
- I saw there are some job opportunities in Colorado, but you don’t do print to that state, would that be a possibility?

Hello Shayna, I really liked reading your post. I really liked how you provided good information but not so much it is too much to read. I also really liked your questions you have listed. It looks like you have really done your research. Well done!
Hey Shayna,i enjoyed reading your post especially since the first location is located in my hometown of Washington DC. National Geographic is a great place to potentially work. They always provide accurate information and very reliable on what they get based on information
Journalism would be a very fun career choice, whether it’s while traveling or for a stationary position. News, world events, and nature are all great resources to pull from for inspiration on what to say, and having a voice in the media like that would be an awesome experience! You can do a lot of good with that goal. As for your potential employers you chose, I really like this list, it shows that you’re committed to the job, even if all that you’ve listed aren’t on the same level as National Geographic (though that would be a dream job for me, for sure!). I see you said you’ll be going to Hawaii, that’s great. Perhaps you could work remotely, so that where ever you move to won’t really be much of an impact.
When I was younger I was interested in Journalism, but my interests have changed. I think National Geographic would be a great place to potentially get a job. I have enjoyed their content they put out pretty much all of my life. Wish you the best of luck!
