Diffusion of Innovation: Snap inc

I remember being in middle school , sitting on the bus waiting to get home when one of my friends asked me if I had “Snapchat”. I had no clue what Snapchat was, at this point Snapchat was fairly brand new and people around my school were barley beginning to start using it. My friend asked me if I had snapchat and I told her no, she then explained what it was and how it was used. At this point in my life the only forms of social media I had used or had was Facebook and Instagram and Kik. The idea of having a full conversation through photos and captions only to me was a completely brand new idea. Very intrigued I downloaded snapchat on my ipod touch that very day, I began to use it on the regular and add all my friends and tell friends who had never heard of it what it was and how it was used.

At the time I was barley in the “Implementation stage” and was still figuring out how to use it, how much I would actually use it and if my friends began to use it then it would become more of a normal thing but at the time only a handful of students had Snapchat.  At this time I know I have reached the “Confirmation/Continuation” stage as once I downloaded Snapchat in middle school I have continuously used it since then, at some point Snapchat blew up and from that point on it became mainstream social media and almost everyone I know has and uses snapchat on a daily basis.

I would consider myself to be in the “early adopters” category as I was one of the few to have Snapchat in the beginning before it became mainstream, at some point I was even allowed to be enrolled into beta testing for new features and updates before they were released to the public. This allowed me to gain access to a variety of new features and provide feedback for the app and how the features were working.

I would consider myself to be in the “Late Majority” category of having downloaded and using the Tik Tok app. Tik Tok was blowing up as the pandemic began and a lot of new content was being featured, it transitioned from being a dance app to providing a variety of content to users such as funny, food, and even lifestyle tips. I saw no point in downloading Tik Tok when it was popular as I saw it as a waste of time. After a majority of my friends kept sending me downloaded tik toks over text message, I gave in and downloaded the app so that they would no longer blow up my notifications with new videos. Fast forward to today I now use the app daily and send funny Tik Toks to my friends.
