My name is Ryan Mayo and I am studying Information Networking, particularly Cybersecurity. For the past 6+ years I have been employed by a local school district as a Network Administrator. I made the decision to refocus on my education 2 years ago with the goal of improving my value in the workplace and to stay current with everchanging technologies.
Due to the changes in security and the evolution of threats to I would like to research cybersecurity as it is applied to the user, in my case K-12 students. Access to wireless networks and devices is often taken for granted in our day to day life, and I think the study of our interaction in a perceived “safe” environment would reveal many interesting data sets to share with students about the technological world around them and their interaction with it.
Cybersecurity is a very interesting subject, it has always been a necessity but now it seems like we’ve overlooked it up until the Solarwinds attack. Now it seems like cybersecurity is everyone’s top priority, which makes it a fantastic area to pursue as a profession and a research topic. I look forward to seeing what you learn from your research because I think it is a topic that will only gain in importance.
I originally started out as a Cyber Security major but took a lot of Networking classes and ended up shifting to Networking. What are some good topics to look into when trying to learn more about Cyber Security?
