Austin’s Intro Blog Post and Initial Research Ideas

Hello all! My name is Austin Rivera and I am a senior at Fort Hays State University. I am currently working towards a Bachelors degree in Information Networking and Telecommunications. I currently work at a local ISP and have been getting networking experience over the past 4 going on 5 years.

I am the father to a beautiful 6 year old girl by the name of Paxton, we spend a lot of our time travelling for her gymnastic competitions. My favorite thing to do is watch her compete, she is very talented and I am hoping her love for competitiveness and gymnastics in general are things she does not grow out of.

A topic that I want to research more and learn about more in depth is AI, and how AI is already and will change the world that we live in even further. I want to get the best understanding of the pros and even cons of AI so better my knowledge as to where this industry is heading in the future

  1. Hello Austin, welcome to the class! I find the topic of A.I. fascinating. It seems A.I. is everywhere from our Iphones, such as Sirir, to our TV with apps like Netflix’s algorithm. I’m sure you’ll find a vast number of areas you could focus on with this topic idea, I like it! My focus is on web development, and while I haven’t used it personally, I’ve briefly heard about Github’s Copolit A.I., which seems to be pretty neat. This A.I. will learn from your coding habits and suggest entire functions that you could use just based on a word. It’ll even give multiple examples of how to complete your tasks, by offering a list of different functions you could use!

This seems to be getting a lot of people in the programming world concerned, because it simplifies the job. I’m not too worried about it though, since it’s not flawless, and isn’t a replacement for a programmer (it’s just a tool).

I wish you the best of luck in this semester, and your career goals!

    1. Evan,
AI seems to continue to come along but not in the way people may have expected. It’s less robots and more sorting or automating for digital spaces. I love the way everything’s coming along, quite fascinating.
