Welcome to WEEK 11!
First, you have a Quiz. Quiz 4 is due this week and will cover the first five parts of our current text (Duesbery & Twyman, 2019). Part Five is a new reading assignment, however, the Experimental Experts should have posted their presentations last week to help you get started. Additionally, four separate groups, everyone who had a presentation for Parts 1 -5, have presentation replies to add this week.
And, our search for secondary research continues. All of these activities are intended to help you better navigate library resources and organize what you find any time you find yourself reviewing academic literature and/or researching new topics.
Last week, you completed a few simple searches in your area and found four potential sources. This week, you’ll try a few advance searches for better results and find two new potential sources. Hopefully, those wide searches last week provided you some good ideas for Boolean searches. Additionally, you’ll record your search parameters, the number of results, annotations for at least two potential sources, and this week, you will also record subject terms for your two new sources. Be sure to follow the instructions in the link below and review the rubric available in My Grades on Bb.
Learning Activities:
- Read Duesbery & Twyman – Part 5.
- [Highly encouraged] Review all presentations on Duesbery and Twyman (2019)
- Watch a review of this week’s assignment from last semester.
We discussed posts created or in progress with students in the class. We focused on this week’s post, but we also discussed articles without DOI numbers and the citation traces that are due in Week 12.
Assignments:
- Take Quiz-4.
- Week 11 blog post — Refining your research.
- Groups that presented on Parts 1 -5 should post replies to two group members as soon as they can. For full credit on the assignment, remember to include substance that will help your classmates. Those groups are:
- Research Designers,
- Reliable Researchers,
- Quality Clarifications, and
- Experimental Experts.
NOTE: If you do NOT see Quiz 4, let me know!! I think it should work fine, but I’ve had trouble with this quiz in the past.
