Week 9 Blog Post: Develop Ideas and Prepare to Search

Remember to check the Weekly Overview for reading and presentation assignments this week. Use those learning activities to help you begin a research journal on our blog. You won’t start a search of the literature yet, but you will begin planning that search.

In this blog post, be sure to discuss:

  1. Your initial research idea and your current research idea. If there are changes, tell us how they are different and why. What led you to change your focus?
  2. What do you want to find out in your research area?
    • This should be a general research question. You will continue to refine it as we continue.
    • Post one main question you currently plan to investigate, and
    • Post a secondary question that could also prove useful or interesting.
      • This second idea gives you a backup or slight alternative to your main area of research in case you need it later.
    • Feel free to utilize the topic development ideas at the bottom of page two of your proposal instructions or my feedback on topic ideas for help.
  3. Have you already found research related to your idea? If so, what is that research?
    • Provide a narrative in-text citation referring to related research you have already found.
    • Provide a reference list at the end of your post with any research you found.
    • You can use ZotZero for this, but be sure to check the program’s work, just as you would check grammar suggestions from Word or Grammarly.
  4. Peruse Forsyth Library Databases and/or our library guide to identify at least three (library) databases you could use to begin your search for related research.
    • To ensure full credit, be sure to explain why you think these three databases would be the best ones to begin with.

Be Sure To:

  1. Tag Your Post with at least ten terms you could use to begin your research in this area.
    • If you have trouble developing that many try a thesaurus, a specialized encyclopedia, the Credo database at Forsyth, or articles you have already found.
  2. Discuss your work or thoughts on all of the above for full credit on your post.
  3. Review the rubric before the deadline to ensure you’ve got everything necessary for full credit.

Please remember blog assignment etiquette:

  1. Categorize your post as “Week 9 Blog Post.”
  2. Develop a unique title for your post
  3. Provide an interesting visual

Tips from Forsyth

Hello All. In order to assist you with navigating the rest of the semester, allow me to share some tips and tricks with you about your upcoming research!

  1. When exploring databases, use the Subjects dropdown to view ones specialized by discipline/major. You can either stick with Informatics, or something more tech related like Applied Technology or Computer Science if you like.
