Welcome to our learning community!

Hello there!

Welcome to a new semester. I’m so glad you’ve decided to join us this semester. This online learning community should help you:

  1. Develop a research idea,
  2. Develop a final proposal, and
  3. Work together to benefit from each others’ ideas.

Basic course information is available here and in Bb. The syllabus is on Bb, but you can also download it here. You can find out about me through my Participant Profile below (Dr. Loggins), and my contact information is on the Informatics Website.
You’ll have assignments almost every week. You already have a weekly 2 pm Central event in the Course Calendar here to help you remember. You also have the first five weekly units available here, and you can get some idea of future assignments by reviewing the class calendar in Bb.
Be sure to review the syllabus linked above for a full overview of the class and to ensure you understand all class policies. You should also check out the navigation in Bb and here in our class blog. Quizzes, Exams, and Surveys will always be available in Bb. All other assignments will be posted here, but a few need to also be uploaded to Bb before earning a grade.
If you are ready to get started, go to the Weekly Units menu above and click the Week 1: Get Started item at the top of that menu. Each Weekly Unit provides an overview of what to expect that week and any materials that can be helpful.  Assignment instructions are either attached in the unit menu or provided within the unit overview.
Other navigation things to note, are the participants, categories, and calendar areas. At the bottom of the blog everyone who has posted to the blog is listed under participants. If you want to check yourself or your discussion groups’ posts, you can see each person’s recent posts and comments by clicking the link below at their name.
Other areas can help you with individual assignments. You will always have a mention or overview of an assignment in the Weekly Units. However, sometimes the assignment is too complex to explain in the overview. When that happens, it can be its own post.
Like the Weekly Units themselves, assignment instructions will usually be categorized by the week it is due. You can find that post and all of the student posts for that week by clicking that week in the “Categories” area, which is available on the right of the screen when you view an individual post.
The course calendar can also help you find assignments and is also on the right of the screen when you view an individual post. Unfortunately, that blog feature doesn’t allow me to do any formatting. It can be difficult to sort out, so I recommend using it just to remind you what is due when.
