The findings of Wasson, Holton, and Roth indicate that users of language archives face serious challenges. Because these users come from cultural groups that differ greatly from one another, designing a website that meets the needs of all users is a formidable project. These findings interest me because graphics may transcend cultural barriers and simplify website construction. In contrast, poorly chosen graphics may further frustrate the users.

Nathan, R., & Yeow, P. (2011). Crucial web usability factors of 36 industries for students: a large-scale empirical study. Electronic Commerce Research, 11(2), 151–180. https://doi-org.ezproxy.fhsu.edu/10.1007/s10660-010-9054-0
This article’s importance lies in its focus on usability as perceived by workers in a specific industry. Users from each industry group indicate the importance of color, font, and the use of graphics and multimedia as well as other web usability factors. Centering on smaller population groups is pertinent to my topic.

Nehmadi, L., Meyer, J., Parmet, Y., & Ben-Asher, N. (2011). Predicting a screen area’s perceived importance from spatial and physical attributes. Journal of the American Society for Information Science & Technology, 62(9), 1829–1838. https://doi-org.ezproxy.fhsu.edu/10.1002/asi.21580
The research completed by Nehmadi, Meyer, Parmet, and Ben-Asher, tests the perceived importance of text articles. Although graphics are not considered in this project, the study of the effect of size and location on user attraction and perceived importance by users is pertinent. It is likely that users react similarly to text articles and graphics, and that size and location influence a user’s perception of the importance of both items.
