Does Social Media Help Tourists?

Hypothesis
I want to examine if tourists use social media as their travel guide for their next travel destination.  I hypothesize that social media plays an important value in not only our travel destination but site seeing as well over a three month period.
Flow Chart

  • In my experiment, there will be 12 tourists.  I will be splitting them up into two groups of 6.  One is the comparison group and the other is the research group.
  • The comparison group consists of the tourists who use social media for travel and the research group does not use social media.
  • I will be the head manager of the travel agency who gathers the data at the end.  I will give them (especially the intervention group) and have a test that is given over a series of question including the following: do they spend time on social media if so what is their search history like, what do they like to do while on vacation, what does their average day look like, etc.  With each of these questions there will be four answers to choose from.
  • Over the three month period of the evaluation, I will gather the data for both the intervention group and the comparison group.  I should come up with that social media is used more with tourists as a travel guide.

Research Purpose
Social media has not only become popular to use for every day life but also for traveling.  It has become widely popular for finding hotels, booking flights, booking a reservation for a restaurant.  The purpose of my research is to determine that social media is used by tourists more now.  The research will be used in a quantitative method using a questionnaire test.  I will be making notes of their answers to keep track of who was who.
Method of Measurement
The research will be conducted using twelve random tourists.  The twelve tourists will then be split up into two groups of six.  The intervention group (the ones who do not use social media but instead use other items such as books, pamphlets).  The next group is the comparison group (the ones who use social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook as their travel guide).  I will then begin a questionnaire that include several questions.  I will then gather all the data and should come up with the conclusion that social media is used with tourists.

  1. Great hypothesis, Brooke! Remember, you are just proposing the research. Because you won’t have results, you should talk about the larger impacts in your proposal depending upon whether or not your hypothesis is supported.
