My research proposal is based on if the increased use of technology affected the rise of mental illness in the U.S.. Overall, I have found a lot of different sources from all over the globe. It can be hard sometimes to narrow it down. But I am finding what I need for the final proposal.

  • On advanced search I typed in “Depression” AND “teens” and “technology”
  • 44 results
  • Resource I found was titled “The Dark Side of Internet Use”
  • The article goes on to talk about the concern with student’s health and how problems are arising from the use of technology. It goes on to describe kids dealing with compulsive and addictive behaviors dealing with technology.

Resource that I found using the same words in the search bar was titled “Can emotion regulation difficulty lead to adolescent problematic smartphone use?” I thought this article would be most helpful due to studying emotion regulation and how difficult it can be. I do not believe I have covered this in any other of sources. It can be used as more flavor to the proposal.

  • Computer Source/EBSCOhost
  • On the advanced search I typed “emotion” AND “technology in the classroom”
  • 3 results

Since I found the emotion article, I felt I needed to investigate that a little bit more. I came across “The effect of emotional analysis on the improvement of experimental e-learning systems” it goes on to talk about kids and doing a different type of learning. Rather than doing the tradition in classroom learning, they are doing the webcams and online work. I felt this would give a peek into a more positive side of the effect of technology.

Next article with the search words I came across and article “Social Medica and Change in Psychological Distress Over Time” it describes how the relationship of information and the ways of communications change over time. It also lists the problems that lay within the change. I felt this was a sharp article to use giving that it more along the lines of seeing how things grow and affect us.

  • On the advanced search I typed “anxiety and depression” AND “technology”

The 5 source I found was “Specific smartphone uses and how they relate to anxiety and depression in university students”. I felt bringing in some college culture to see how things were. I believe this will really help giving the side of 20-year-old individuals.

With these 5 sources I feel that I was able to take a look into how technology has really changed our lives on a day-to-day basis. It has been a constant struggle this past year, I have felt the draw backs at my work. This whole project has shown me a lot of how this world handles change.
