Five more searches to make sure we have what we need

In this our week thirteen post, I will be conducting five more searches on my topic to ensure that I have approached saturation on my research data.  As a reminder to my fellow classmates, my research topic is to determine whether or not there is still a viable future for the construction and repair of personal computers.  Following this introductory paragraph, I will list my five searches for this week and their pertinent information.

The Five Searches

  • The first database search was performed on Computer Source via EBSCOhost.  In this search, I used the advanced search fields of computers AND production AND sales.  I used the limiters of  Full Text and set the date range to 2000-2021.  I received a total of 8 results.  From those results, I picked an article that was useful to my topic and observed some of the alternate ‘subjects’ listed.  I selected one of those as the field for my second search.
  • While still operating in the same data base, I selected the subject Microsoft operating system (DE “MICROSOFT operating system) for my second search.  I added the additional fields of sales AND production, and adjusted the limiters to Full Text and date range of 2015-2021.  My advanced subject search returned a total of 97 result.
  • For my third search, I changed databases to Computer Science Collection.  I performed an advanced search on the field terms of personal computers AND sales AND production AND decline AND marketing.  Again, I set the limiter to Full Text and the date range at 01/01/2000 to 04/26/2021.  My search returned a total of 44 results.  Selecting on of the relevant results to my topic yielded a new subjects list that lead to my fourth search.
  • Staying in the same database as my third search, I selected the subject “Computer Industry” as the main field of my fourth search.  I added the additional fields of sales AND growth AND decline AND marketing as boolean attachments to the subject field.  I set my limiter to Full Text and my date range at 01/01/2015 to  04/23/2021.  I received a total of 13 results.
  • For my fifth search, I changed databases again to Applied Science & Technology Abstracts (H. W. Wilson) via EBSCOhost.  For this search, I performed a simple search on the field term Computer Sales.  I set the limiter to Full Text and the date range at 01/01/2015 to 04/31/2021.  I received a total of 24 results.

Concluding thoughts
Each of these additional searches did prove to be helpful in researching my topic, and I found at least one additional result in each of these searches that could prove useful in my study.  That being said, I feel that, at this point, additional searches are not necessary as I have reached a level of saturation.  More and more, as I progressed through these five additional searches, I was finding many of the same results popping up for my previous searches of the last few weeks.  I feel confident that I have located sufficient relevant information for my research proposal.
