In this weeks post, I am going to talk about the two searches I performed and additional searches applied to a source from each database by means of a subject search for the first source, and then a reverse and forward citation search for the other source. As a reminder to my fellow classmates, my research topic is to determine whether or not there is still a viable future for the construction and repair of personal computers. I did find these new search methods to be a viable resource for obtaining additional research sources as it lead me to articles that I would have not know existed without performing these advanced searching techniques.

First Search
For my first source search, I used the database Computer Source via EBSCOhost on our school library site. I searched for personal computer AND marketing AND sales, while using the limiters of full text, and date range: 2000-2015. My search yielded a total of 9 results. I will list my source APA information will be listed at the end of the post under references. I found the subject term personal computer sales & prices (DE “PERSONAL computer sales & prices”) to be a viable subject search term. It returned a total of 55 new sources for consideration.

Second Search
For my second search in our library, I chose the Sage Journals database as my resource. I performed an advanced search on desktop computers AND sales AND marketing AND predictions AND mobile AND panels, using the limiters ‘only content I have full access to’, and the date range of 2010-2020. Upon my refining my search, I captured 66 possible resource. My selected source for this part of the exercise also be listed below in references. Upon selecting my source, I found in the references of my source a total of 25 citations that I could use for reverse citation searches and possibly additional sources. I tried the method described in the video for using the ‘Journal Search’ on our library site for possible forward citation sources. Unfortunately, the library search returned no results for forward citations. I then proceeded with a Google Scholar search for forward citations. Fortunately this search productive at providing 15 citations that cited my source’s work, several that could be potential sources.

I’ve never used Sage Journals before for my database, I might have to check them out! Seems like a good one. I also like the pictures you used in your post, very fitting to your topic. I’ve used EBSCOhost before and have found it a very helpful database.
