Vox Media

- Employer Contact Information: Vox has a contact us option. Job listings are also included in their website and you can apply there. https://www.voxmedia.com/pages/careers-jobs
- General Employer Information: Vox Media has a number of popular news sites such as Polygon – for video games, The Verge – for computer, tablet and cell phone news, and Eater – for food. The Verge has three locations for their operations: NY, CA, and DC. Based on my research, Vox media has very good news sites. The sites are well designed and exceptionally catchy. Ads are displayed tastefully and likely amass good profits for the company. They have masterful video reviews that have engaging reviewers and beautiful videography.
- Your interest in the employer because of this research: Researching this employer has certainty strengthened my interest. They have a lot of job openings for data analytics. I think they take advertising very seriously. I wonder if the data analytics positions are for analyzing network traffic and finding the articles that produce the most clicks or if it is related more to advertising.

- Your interest in the employer because of this research: I would be particularly interested in working for a company that is barely beginning to solidify a place in the US market. It would feel like a start up job with much less of the risk associated with newly developing companies. I am now more enthusiastic about working for such a company.
- Questions to Help You Succeed: I know TP-Link has recently broken into the US market. What has the reception to the company been in other countries?
How has TP Link been affected by 2020’s COVID 19 and how is TP Link meeting their customers needs during this time?

- Your interest in the employer because of this research: T-Mobile sounds like a very interesting place to work. The company appears to be very progressive and takes drastic measures to compete against other mobile service providers. I respect a company that takes risks to differentiate itself from others. My research has strengthened my interest in working at T-Mobile.

Microsoft
-
- Employer Contact Information: Microsoft has a career listing on its website. Job listing locations are varied. There are jobs from Virginia to Singapore. https://careers.microsoft.com/professionals/us/en/c-it-operations
- General Employer Information: Microsoft is a well known computer operating system developer. They have a Surface line of computer hardware. Microsoft makes Xbox too. Microsoft was allegedly offering to purchase TikTok.
- Your interest in the employer because of this research: I find Microsoft to be an interesting technology company. They have a very interesting Surface line of computer hardware that pushes the boundaries of design. As they introduced the Surface family, I believe they led the other Windows computer hardware companies. Microsoft showed the other hardware companies how to make nicely designed 2-in-1 computers and tablets. My desire to work for this company has strengthened based on my research.
- Questions to Help You Succeed: What led to Microsoft closing its Microsoft stores? When do you think Microsoft will compete with Apple’s M1 silicone chips in their new MacBook and Mac Mini?
My first comment would be on your post about TP-Link. This company has actually had a presence in the American market for a number of years now. I have been incorporating their networking equipment into a number of my custom built network solutions for my clients for almost ten years now. I find their equipment to be well constructed and performs reliably for the price. As for your questions, I think you may need to expand your questions to include topics related to how you may best fit into the company.
My next comment is in respect to your post on Microsoft. I do realize that Microsoft is a behemoth of a company, but I feel your general employer information is a little too general. You have an interest in the Surface line of products. You might include a little more history into the employer information detailing the Surface product and its production history. Again, I have the same comment about your questions to help you succeed. I just do not see the relevance to what the closing of Microsoft stores and competition with Apple’s chips will help you display your interest in and establish a rapport with Microsoft as an employer. How are they going to infer that you are interested in a job with them answering those trivial questions?
I like that Vox Media seems to be very open with many different possibilities of what people could do for a job at their company. What would you want to do working there? Another question would be with this company in particular – if you wanted to move up in the company do you have to be willing to move to the different locations? Or can you stay put in one place?
Microsoft was on my short list as a company I would love to work with, but went with some others. I had the same issues finding any other info on recruiters, which I imagine is very common for huge companies.
