Potential Employer

Hello. These are the four companies I chose to be potential employers- Think Whole Person Healthcare, Boys Town National Research Hospital, University of Nebraska Medical Center and Methodist Health System. They are all hospitals that use different Electronic Medical Record systems.

  1. Think Whole Person Healthcare
7100 West Center Road, Omaha, NE 68106
    (https://thinkhealthcare.org)
    402-506-9000
    Kelli Jorgensen
  2. Think Whole Person Healthcare is an independent primary care center. It is a medical practice that is geared towards seeing patients with chronic conditions. Think opened in 2015 and is a newer facility. Think incorporates the team approach and has several different areas of specialty, radiology, pharmacy, and primary care. Think has over 300 employees and serves of 40,000 patients. Patients are seen in clinic Monday through Friday and their pharmacy is open every day of the week. Think also has a walk-in clinic for urgent needs that is open every day of the week as well.
  3. What interested me in Think was their “team approach”. A patient can see or talk with their provider, pharmacist, nurse, and care coordinator, all in one place. They can also see multiple different specialties on the same day as their primary, all under one roof. I think this is very beneficial to patients as they do not have to travel from one clinic to another when trying to see different specialties.
One thing that I did have some concerns about was the company size. I would assume that since there were only 300 employees, most of which would be providers, clinical staff, and pharmacists, that the other areas would be smaller groups. Such as the IT department. There would only be a couple of people to a job. Considering this, I would be worried about opportunities to move up in the company.
  4. Based on my research, the questions I would ask this employer:
Are there opportunities for advancement in the company?
    2. Does this company have plans on expanding?
    3. What types of skills is the team missing that you are looking to fill with a new hire?
    4. I see this is a newer company, can you tell me where you see this company in the next few years?

  1. Boys town National Research Hospital

    531-355-1234
Traci McAuliffe-Director of Human Resources at Boys Town
  2. Boys town was founded in 1977 and offers a wide range of hospital, clinic, and residential services. Boys Town Hospital includes acute pediatric inpatient hospitalization, surgical services and inpatient and residential care for children and adolescents with severe behavioral disorders. There are 5 Boys Town Pediatric locations for primary care and several specialty care clinics for children and adults across Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Boys Town National Research Hospital will build a pediatric health care network to provide a broad range of pediatric services to treat physical and mental illnesses through connections and cooperative projects, as well as through those services owned and organized by the Hospital. There are several perks to being a Boys Town employee, such as, free visits and free prescriptions through their health plan, tuition assistance and several different resources.
  3. I knew Boys Town had several locations but upon reading more I did not know that they were in places such as Florida, Washington DC, Louisiana, Nevada, and New England. I also was very intrigued by the free health care visits for the employee and family, along with free prescriptions. I thought that to be a great incentive to work for the company, especially with how much health care is currently.
One thing that I was reading about in a couple job descriptions is that they require experience. I usually see that as a preferred qualification. With finishing up this year and starting to look for potential employers, I would be concerned they would not give me a chance without any experience.
  4. My questions would be:
    1. Are you flexible on potential employees without experience?
    2. What are the skills and experiences you are looking for in an ideal candidate?
    3. Which other departments work most closely with this one?
    4. Is there anything else, in regard to experience, that I can provide you with that would be helpful?
  1. University of Nebraska Medical Center
42nd and Emile, Omaha, NE 68198
    402-559-4000
University of Nebraska Medical Center (unmc.edu)
    Kimberly Snow-Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist
  1. Nebraska Medicine includes two hospitals, the state’s largest and highest rated Nebraska Medical Center and Bellevue, along with more than 40 clinics. UNMC has more than 1,000 physicians in all major specialties and services. UNMC is also a teaching hospital where the students benefit from one of the nation’s leaders in cutting edge research. UNMC encourages growth and offers employees the means to build a fulfilling career.
  2. I would be very interested in being a potential employee for this company, not only for the possibilities of growth and furthering my career, but for being a part of an organization that has led multiple different trials and studies that has helped treatment for different causes. UNMC sees a wide array of patients from newborn to geriatric. It would be a great place to get experience and learn.
  3. My questions for this organization and the interviewer would be:
    1. What training programs are available to your employees?
    2. How will I be trained?
    3. What types of skills is the team missing that you’re looking to fill with a new hire?
    4. Do you have any big upgrades or projects coming up that have a deadline?
  1. Methodist Health System
8303 Dodge St., Omaha, NE 68114
Methodist Hospital | Nebraska Methodist Health System (bestcare.org)
    402-354-4000
  2. Methodist Health System was founded in 1982 and headquartered in Omaha. Methodist is the region’s oldest not-for-profit health care system. Methodist hospital has been serving the community since 1891. Methodist has four hospitals in Nebraska and southwest Iowa, and more than 30 clinic locations. Methodist strives to guarantee that you always have complete, compassionate care. In their organization, they ensure the opportunity to excel in your field, use the latest technologies and learn from great teammates.
  3. As I search jobs in my area, I do not find many options. Although looking through the website and through the different areas, different careers and mission, there was not anything that really stood out to me. They mentioned excelling your field, which is great for growth, but it did not mention any more about the benefits of working there.
  4. My questions would be:
    1. What are the current goals that the company is focused on, and how does this team work to support hitting those goals?
    2. Other than the normal benefits, what other benefits is there when working for this company?
    3. What are the biggest challenges that someone in this position would face?

  1. Hi Kelsie . I thought your potential employers presentation was excellent. I also have worked for a few hospitals in the past and I know for a fact you will be very successful working in the field of Health Informatics because there is a shortage of qualified IT folks in Health Informatics just like nursing. You’ll definitely will be in high demand when you graduate. You may want to think about relocating to West Coast because of the demand and very high salaries.

  2. Hi Kelsie!
I really enjoyed your company reviews! I think the medical industry is very interesting even though I honestly am not super savvy in the area. One of the questions that would come to mind for some of your companies would be what research they are conducting. My curiosity with this would be which types of technology or medicine they spend the majority of their money on. The answer to that would lead to some insight on which direction they are headed or where they see the future of their company.
