My first thoughts on the class are that it seems truly very interesting and also very beneficial for not only my educational goals, but my current career as well. I work as a full time Intelligence Analyst for the United States Air Force, and with that comes a lot more research than one might think. Having a class such as this to help aid me in being more efficient and unbiased with my research will be extremely beneficial.
As far as my research goes for this class, I will likely stick to something with computing or networking, as that is a strong passion of mine. I am currently spending much of my time attempting to further develop my skillsets in cybersecurity as well as programming. One item I find of particular interest is the dark web. I feel that many do not understand some of the potential benefits of it. Some questions I might try and look into would be as follows:
- Do individuals really understand what being a “hacker” really involves?
- Do people truly understand what the dark web is and how it functions?
- If knowledge was spread about some of the positives that only the dark web can bring, would the average person be more likely to utilize it?
The dark web has always been interesting to me, but that is partially because I have seen some of the international positives that have come about from it! With as much of our daily lives involve being online, I find it interesting that more people do not see how utilizing something as private, yet interconnecting, as the dark web can be beneficial in a world that is losing privacy by the second.
