Discussion Question:
Consider your chosen career path, or if you are not yet sure, bring to mind one career path you are considering. How do you think knowledge of research methods could help you in that career?
While a career path is sometimes changed a few times due to the amount of research one does. We focus on the factors that shape and affect them. Most people try to do something that interests them. Others try to provide for family members. Career paths are different jobs you can hold the longer you work that field. The more studying you do in college, the better it will help you move up the ladder. As a person receives a degree that is just the beginning of the adventure.
With the knowledge of research, you can begin to look and learn about the field you would like to move in. Choosing a career path is exceedingly difficult for most people. Some switch their major a few times once they learn how difficult the road can be. Using research methods can help set your goals and what you want to achieve in the coming years. That can lead you to find your core values or your morals. It might even be that you would like to specialise in a specific area. The whole point is for you to find out what you can get out of your job?
Research methods will set you up to find good accurate sources to find information. This can help someone set up a 7- year or even a 10-year plan. Research paves the way to different milestones to know where you are supposed to be in allotted time frames with certain companies. Not to mention your salary per year and benefits. Most people want the best deal they can find when job hunting. Sadly, with this world the way it is, you need a good profile to get your foot in the door with companies. The more research you pick up over the years the better you will be about getting the scoop on almost anything. You can grasp what to expect when being hired for a job.
Going to school for cyber-security and coming from a background of extraordinarily little technology knowledge. It helps to do a lot of research. You can begin to understand the field and who is open when hiring for fresh college graduates. To know how to do a little research can give you a step above the competition and impress the employers looking for you. With all the technology it is amazing what we can do with just a cellphone. That begin said no stone should be unturned.
Louis
I remember spending months of research finding out what exactly I wanted to do as a career then finding out what degree I needed to obtain that career. I absolutely agree that the more research you do on a career path the better off you will be over the competition on landing your foot in the door. Networking is also very important in getting your foot in the door especially with the way people apply for jobs. There really is no driving to said place giving them your resume, its pretty much all applying on their website or some job board site.
Hi Louis, great post!
I agree that the more research you can do on a career will benefit you in the long run. I had no idea what I wanted to so I just opened a degree book, found something that looked cool, and went with it. Because I did not know much about my degree, I took the first internship offered in college, it ended up being a good one, and let it choose my path. I am happily still working at that job, and believe that luck was kind of on my side in that situation, but because I had done no research, I did not know a lot. I did not what my other options could have been, I did not know that I was underpaid for awhile, and I did not know how to fight for myself using facts to get where I wanted to be.
