This assignment is due in week 15 at 2 pm Central on Friday, May 7
Begin reviewing it now to ensure success.
When you have finished your proposal, submit an abstract as a blog post and submit the full paper (without an abstract) in Bb. You are also encouraged, but not required, to include a full copy of your proposal as uploaded media in your blog post. Once your paper is submitted in Bb, you have four days to adjust it solely to correct plagiarism.
To ensure success on this assignment, begin by:
- Reviewing the instructions. They introduce the assignment, discuss its purpose, and provide detailed information on how to complete the proposal. Take notes or make a copy of the document for personal notes or highlights to help you review the information as you continue to work on this assignment.
- Skim through the resources noted in the instructions, particularly the online APA Style and Grammar Guidelines, the readings you have already been assigned, and the student research proposal below, set aside useful resources or take notes on which resources you will return to as you have questions.
- Take a look at the assignment rubric and note the differences between a strong and a weak submission. Note specific pitfalls to avoid.
- Be aware that while this assignment’s rubric does not include a specific section on grammar, you can be sure grammar will be considered in all categories.
- Sloppy grammar in any category will result in average and below-average scores.
- Never rely fully on a grammar checker, your own vague memory, or a citation creator. Always double-check.
- As you draft your paper, I encourage you to submit it on Bb to check for plagiarism. Just include comments so I know you are not looking for any feedback at that time. If you would like feedback, I can answer specific questions via email and provide more general reviews by appointment.
Class discussion of the assignment and potential research ideas on October 7, 2020.
Some final notes regarding Plagiarism and Safe Assign.
- If I find any plagiarism when I review the paper, it will not earn any credit, but I will usually give you a small window in which to correct the problem. So, I encourage you to review the SafeAssign report yourself and keep some time free in case there is an error.
- WARNING! Using software that presents a readable but false document image (by adjusting document kerning (whitespace) and/or concentration of words, paragraphs and sentences) to defeat SafeAssign and Turn-It-In textual analysis is completely unacceptable. Such acts will be viewed as deliberate and willful cheating, and be subject to the university’s full disciplinary measures, up to an including removal of grades, expulsion from the course, your degree and the university. This software obfuscation technique is how many “coursework/essay mills” deliver on their promise of low plagiarism scores but their techniques are detectable, so just don’t take the risk – do work YOU can be proud of, not that you pay for and feel like a fraud about later.
