Deadline:  Tuesday, March 9 at 2pm Central

It’s that time of year again, almost the middle of the semester! That means the midterm is coming up soon, expect it next week. This week:

  1. Work in your small groups to check your article reviews.
  2. Use discussion questions and finish the reading to begin preparing for the midterm.
  3. Look ahead to your final research proposal assignment.

Group Discussion:
A. Reply to last week’s posts: Your article review was due last week, on March 2. Take a look at the articles your group members posted. Could their articles be helpful to you? I hope as group discussions continue, you will find common sources and ideas that are helpful to each of you. For this week, post a reply to three group members’  article reviews:

  • Do you think something could be clarified?
  • Did their review help you better understand a topic?
  • What did you think of the article in general?
  • Do you think they did something particularly well in the review?

Choose at least one of the above topics to discuss. Make sure you give it some depth. Replies should be a minimum of eight sentences and generally shouldn’t run more than three paragraphs at most.
B. Week 7 Blog Post: Begin looking back over the text together. We did something similar earlier in the semester when you created blog posts addressing the discussion questions in the text. Now that we have discussion groups, we’ll have each group focus on a chapter this week and next. For this week:

  1. Heather, Benjamin, and Luis will cover Chapter 7, on experimental research.
  2. Rebecca, Samuel, Kelsie, Daryl, and Chaun will cover Chapter 6, on qualitative research
  3. Jared, James, Monica, and Benjamin will cover Chapter 5, on measurement
  4. Christopher, Louis, Brooke, Jayden, and Wes will cover Chapter 4, on sampling.

Just like with Week 3:

  • Categorize your post (Week 7),
  • Note the general topic in the title,
  • Be sure to provide context, including the topic and discussion question number,  so the post stands on its own, and
  • Use the blog conventions of visuals and tags that you use for most of our blog posts.

Each group member should choose a different topic from the chapter and only needs to address on discussion question from that topic.

The Week’s Learning Objectives:

  1. Study or review the basics of statistical methods
  2. Consider effect size and the utility of meta-analysis
