KT6 Donnie MacLeod: Solving the Problems of Lakeview Health System Through Strategic Problem Solving

What: With problems identified in table 2 Identified 1 overarching problem. I then dissected the answer to this problem through 8 specific steps. I also identified CMS as an important stakeholder which could have implications on my plan.

So what: Through the 8 steps I came up with 2 plans to implement and then evaluate those plans. Through SMART goal writing I came up with 2 goals.

Now what: the next step in the process would be to educate my upper management team on the plan, making any necessary changes and begin to implement the 2 plans.

  1. Hi Donnie, I liked you problem statement, there is no doubt that teamwork and synergy are crucial but lack of accountability and poor leadership can not be ignored .

  2. Yes I would agree and I think it starts at the top. Good or bad, the qualities of leaders usually trickle down to employees.

  3. You have done a great job in creating your maps! They are always easy to follow and I think you did a wonderful job on this assignment. I think you have a good idea with the poor organizational structure of the system. Lack of teamwork can make the quality of the job fail and frankly miserable to work in. I believe this health system is has a cyclic issue that definitely needs intervention.

    1. Donnie,

Most excellent post. Are the clinics you mentioned already hospital owned or would the hospital be expanding its service lines? There is so much to think about with that. But I see more and more clinics going the corporately owned route versus privately owned to to the overhead and malpractice insurance.

  4. Hello Donnie,
I really like the layout you used for this assignment. I also like the method of attacking all 26 issues at one time and defining them as overall teamwork issues. I believe this can be done in some cases, if analysis shows that the root cause for the problems all tie back to the same root cause, however, it is important to review each issue so that we are not putting an overall correction in which fixes some and drives more issues for others.

Overall I think you completed this assignment very well.
