Resources

  1. Are the how-to videos still providing value? Please explain.
    1. Yes, the how-to videos help explain what it is we should be looking at and doing for our assignments. They are extremely helpful. Especially this round since I felt like our assignments were more complex.
  2. Are the documents and videos I am providing valuable? Please explain.
    1. Yes, I feel like the documents and videos really help connect the concepts to what it is we are trying to learn for the week.
  3. Is the syllabus still valuable?
    1. Yes- I use the syllabus to help me track where I am at within the course.
  4. Is the textbook starting to become more valuable?
    1. Sometimes- I still feel like we could utilize the textbook a little more for our assignments. It seems like we use it for one assignment per month.
  5. Was the information about audiobooks and text to speech valuable to you?
    1. Yes- I am a big believer of audiobooks and text to speech. I enjoyed seeing those items as part of our learning assignment. I personally don’t use text to speech, but I work with others that utilize similar functionality. The audiobooks are something I like to use!

Programs

  1. Is Pletica becoming easier for you to use? And does it help you learn more?
    1. Yes- it is becoming easier for me to use each time we make a new map for our assignment. Pletica is something that I considered trying to use at work with my teammates within the project management space. I do feel like it helps me learn more. It helps me to think outside of the box and connect concepts to one another.
  2. Same question for Tableau, Rationaleonline.com and thinkquiry.
    1. I don’t use tableau for this class just because I haven’t figured out how to get past the free student account items. I use tableau all the time at work and love it! We use it specifically for our project quality dashboards for each client. I also haven’t spent much time in rationaleonline.com due to the limitations. I have dabbled in thinkquiry but haven’t used it as much as we use Pletica!

Concepts

  1. What were your thoughts on complexity, emergence, innovation, and organizational learning?

These are all great concepts for us to cover within the course. I am familiar with most of those concepts but feel like discussing those concepts in this class has helped me take a deeper dive into really understanding them. It is easy to say something is complex, but do people understand how/why it is complex?

  1. What were your thoughts on the Cynefin framework and OODA Loop?

I was excited we covered these concepts. Someone on Facebook had previously commented on my post about OODA loop. I didn’t really understand what that meant until we discussed it in our assignment. I think it is important that we take some of the military concepts and apply them to leadership roles within the healthcare industry!

  1. What were your thoughts on the Toulmin Method?

The Toulmin method was a new concept for me. I enjoyed utilizing the method to deconstruct what was being said in Trevors argument, as well as deconstruct the article regarding childhood obesity and the affects it has on adulthood.

  1. What were your thoughts on the Red Team Tool- Argument Deconstruction?

The Red Team argument deconstructive tool was a fun concept to use! It forced me to really understand and listen to the messages the video and blog were trying to portray to their readers and listeners. I wouldn’t mind if we revisit this again with another video/blog!

  1. What were your thoughts on the double and single loop learning?

I had never heard of the double and single loop learning prior to this assignment. This concept is very eye-opening for me. People don’t think about the complexity behind finding solutions to problems or how individuals learn from adaptive and generative learning.

  1. 13. What were your thoughts on Professor Brunch’s video and the video on Soldier and Scout Mindset?

I specifically learned a lot from the Soldier and Scout Mindset video. It is easy to have a soldier mindset and emotionally respond with defensiveness to certain situations. Leaders need to be able to turn off and on their soldier/scout mindsets. For the most part, the leadership scenarios I am put into require a scout mindset. Leaders should be able to support and drive their organizations. They shouldn’t be defensiveness and unmotivated their employees. These concepts bring me back to emotional intelligence. Leaders with high emotional intelligence can not only read and react to others emotions but should be able to control their own by not responding in a defensive way to certain situations.

  1. What were your thoughts on the Nominal Group Technique, the Delphi Method, and Context Analysis

These concepts are important for leaders to understand because they help promote team members to brainstorm and generate ideas. Motivation from team members usually stems from leaders encouraging members to be the ones to generate new innovative ideas or to even brainstorm solutions to current problems. These techniques are important to associate satisfaction within an organization.

Assignments

  1. What did you think of CM5?

I enjoy the assignments where we get to utilize the book more. There are some useful concepts and interesting reads within our textbook! I feel like I learn a lot about the industry from reading some of the information included in our assignments.

  1. What did you think of CM6?

CM6 was a great assignment. There were a lot of different concepts included within the assignment that forced us to think in different ways. I enjoyed applying these concepts to different healthcare scenarios. I think it is easy for people to lose sight of how difficult it is to make decisions and develop for organizations. The stages of team development helped me understand how complex it can be for teams to develop and improve. I also liked the different questions we answered from the book about turnover in an organization. Turnover is inevitable for every organization. It is good for leaders to always stay on top of the idea of turnover even if you don’t think it will happen to your organization.

  1. What did you think of EM7? Do you still plan on writing a blog? What were your thoughts on using previous student blogs to deconstruct?

Yes! I am more motivated to write a blog. I honestly didn’t realize I was reading another student’s blog when going through them. Deconstructing another student’s blog allowed me to put more thought into the detail of what it is I need/should/want to include within my blog.

  1. What did you think of the spiral method in EM7? What did you think of the discussion on logical fallacies?

I liked the spiral method used in EM7, as well as the logical fallacies. The examples provided to help us understand logical fallacies were entertaining and useful!

  1. What did you think of the Thesis Generator in EM7? What did you think of the BDK Method and the Critical Thinking handouts?

The thesis generator was awesome! It helped me organize my thoughts for the blog that I am going to write over Red Team. The BDK method and critical thinking handouts were also useful tools to use to help plan out my blog.

  1. What were your thoughts of this assignment (FM8)? Does this idea (Swarming Feedback) make sense?

I like the feedback assignments. It allows us to reflect on what we learned in the last four weeks. I see it as a little bit of a quiz. I honestly wouldn’t look back on the theories and concepts we learned if we didn’t have the feedback map. The feedback map also allows us to relate the concepts over the weeks to one another while providing us the opportunity to give feedback on the assignments.

Collaboration

  1. 21. What are your thoughts with the facebook group? How can we use it better?

I like the facebook group. I never know when I am supposed to post my assignments in there. Sometimes I forget to post my maps. Not sure if that has any effect on my grade or if the facebook group is just a way we can show off our maps and potentially get more feedback by past classmates that have taken this class.

  1. What are your thoughts with the WordPress Learning Community? How can we use it better?

I thought the WordPress Learning Community was helpful. It isn’t something that sticks out in my mind from our assignments, so maybe we can use it more?

23. If you connect with an expert, did you enjoy the connect? Was it worthwhile?

I honestly haven’t connected with an expert! ☹

 Expectations

  1. What are your expectations moving forward?

I hope we keep up the same pattern of assignments we are receiving, as well as continue to introduce new concepts. I also hope we get to build more maps!

  1. What would you like to see change?

I would like to learn more about leadership in a healthcare setting.

  1. What is one thing you love?

Learning new concepts and getting to build maps!

  1. What is one thing you hate?

I completely understand there is a strong intersect between politics and healthcare, but I do feel like some of the topics are geared more towards politics and not healthcare. I would like to see more healthcare related topics within our assignments and less political ones.

  1. What can the instructor do immediately to make the class better?

I really enjoy the topics and concepts we cover in this course. If there was one thing, I had to pick it would be to provide more healthcare related topics. I love when we discuss military concepts and then tie them into healthcare.

  1. What is one question I should be asking, yet I am not?

How do the concepts we learn about each week apply to our jobs or what our leaders do within our organizations?

  1. Lara,
I agree with you that we should maybe be finding ways to make our textbook more useful. I find the information in the textbook helpful, it just feels like we can apply it here a little bit more.
I think its great that you enjoy building maps so much, I sometimes find them challenging, but when I think about it, they are beneficial to how we think and organize concepts!
    Great job!

  2. Hi Lara, great post. I liked your thoughts about using the book more. That would be useful, I do find this book helpful as it is now also!

  3. Lara – great job! And no… Facebook does not have any bearing on your grade. Feel free to post as little or as much as you want.

Regarding this idea: The Red Team argument deconstructive tool was a fun concept to use! It forced me to really understand and listen to the messages the video and blog were trying to portray to their readers and listeners. I wouldn’t mind if we revisit this again with another video/blog!

Would you be interested in creating this assignment? And doing a video blog?
