Welcome to Great Plains 2021

Fort Hays State University is honored to (virtually) host the 41st Annual Great Plains Students’ Psychology Convention. This convention provides a unique forum for undergraduate and graduate psychology students across Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri to engage in professional development by presenting papers and posters, discussing relevant topics, and exchanging ideas. We are thrilled that you’ve chosen to join us for this opportunity to build professional skills, add to your knowledge, and participate in a collegial manner that is of benefit to all.

Noting the current unique and critical climate, the conference committee has selected the theme: The Path Forward: Resilience & Social Change.

By utilizing this conference as a platform for addressing some of the challenges of this unprecedented time, our goal is to provide undergraduate and graduate psychology students with inspiring messages and actionable items from keynote speakers that aim to build and harness the power of resilience. Through highlighting the important issues of equity, social justice, advocacy, personal growth and reflection, we hope to encourage budding psychologists to leverage their unique knowledge and skillsets to help enhance the quality of their lives and the lives of others as we navigate the current climate and search for a more inclusive, equitable way forward for all.

This year we are thrilled to welcome TWO exceptional keynote speakers.
• On Friday afternoon, Mr. Michael Miller, a retired Special Agent with the FBI, will present on resilience as he shares information about his personal experiences and growth working with the FBI.
• On Saturday morning, Dr. Charles Barrett, award-winning educator, author and School Psychologist, will address the evolving social climate and discuss how to leverage our skillsets to advocate for social justice, equity, and change.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome all of you to the 2021 Great Plains Students’ Convention. We wish to extend sincere gratitude to all those who have supported this convention to ensure its continued feasibility and success. We also wish to extend genuine appreciation to all those presenting and attending for sharing your time, energy, knowledge and passion as we forge The Path Forward. Thank you and enjoy!

Most sincerely,
The FHSU Great Plains Convention Committee
