Introduction N955

Hello everyone, my name is Kay Gonzales.  I am doing another introduction, as I feel there is a possibility I did not do on the correct link. I am a family nurse practitioner.  My husband and I recently relocated from the Albuquerque, NM area to Omaha, NE.  My husband accepted a position as Academic Chief of General Internal Medicine at Creighton University/Catholic Health Initiative (CHI).  I left a job in New Mexico that was primary care in internal medicine.  I did have a panel of 500+ patients. ( I miss them).  My career began as an RN in 1983 ADN; 1997 BSN; 2001 MSN/FNP-from Fort Hays State University;  2003- Postgrad degree in Midwifery, the University of Kansas, Kansas City.   I have worked in almost all areas of nursing over the years.  As an NP/CNM; I had worked in family medicine with a focus on women’s health; I did do prenatal care, delivered my patients babies, did postpartum care. I have also been a World Health Organization Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I am no longer certified in this area.  I did not renew my CNM License in 2011.  I found my passion was in primary care.  In between, I did moonlight in emergency medicine and urgent care.  I have worked on Indian reservations as a Locum. Diversity is essential, moving into that area taught me so much about trust. Recently I have been approached about a position in rheumatology..Sounds interesting, I have worked with these types of patients and providers, but, have never specialized. They would like a “leader” and experience.  May give it a go, will let you all know what happens!

Now, a DNP program.  Down to the last two semesters.  It has gone very quickly.  And it has gotten much more comfortable! I had not considered a DNP, I felt, to be honest, it was not necessary. Gosh, was I wrong! The knowledge which I have received has been career-changing in the best way possible. Understanding the “whys” of health care has been eye-opening. Processes make more sense!

I look forward to getting to know you better this semester!

Kay Gonzales
