We based the spatial approach off the articles I read in my literature review. Comparing census tract centroid distance to the listed stores was a common approach in the articles used to guide the research. Showing the time-based analysis was trickier since we were not able to find articles that explicitly mentioned a time-based approach. Me and my research advisor had to come up with our own way to show the time based accessibility that was compatible with the software used.
I would definitely say to get ahead in the research as soon as you have the chance. I knew before my Fall semester started what I needed to do to get as far ahead in my research as possible.
I chose stores that I could prove had produce. I included stores that I had been to before and remember having produce, stores that had pictures posted on their google maps page of produce in store, and I also looked at store flyers to see if they had listings for produce.
Food insecurity and food deserts are receiving increased attention. What motivated you to use this particular approach?

What advice would you give to other undergraduate students interested in getting involved in research?
I would definitely say to get ahead in the research as soon as you have the chance. I knew before my Fall semester started what I needed to do to get as far ahead in my research as possible.
How did you determine what stores were sources of “healthy foods?”
I chose stores that I could prove had produce. I included stores that I had been to before and remember having produce, stores that had pictures posted on their google maps page of produce in store, and I also looked at store flyers to see if they had listings for produce.
