Introduction – Module 1

My name is Jennifer Gaines and I have been a nurse since 1997.  I finished my RN courses in 2000 and decided that I wanted to finish my BSN which I had started so many years ago.  I have been married for 23 years and have 3 children. The oldest is in his junior year at K-State.  My daughter is a high school graduate, class of 2020 and has been struggling with the changes Covid has thrown at her.  My youngest is 15 and decided that finishing his freshman year online wasn’t so bad.  Although he says that he didn’t learn a thing.  We live on a farm and work hard making it succeed.

I am working at a FQHC clinic.  This is a federally funded clinic which means all reimbursement is based on data.  It has been a hard change focusing on checking one more little box.  There are days that I feel that the data seems to take priority over the patient.  However, this data has allowed us the funding/grants to add diabetic education, chronic care team and a transition care nurse to help with hospital discharges.  The research that has affected us the most is the Covid data. It has changed or protocols almost daily.

    Jennifer,
This whole Covid thing really made a mess for all the seniors this year. Did she get a graduation ceremony or did they reschedule for later this year? That’s rough, my nephew is a senior this year too, he was pretty upset but his ceremony was moved back to July so hopefully by then he can walk across that stage. Good luck this semester!!

Nice to meet you Jennifer, I have a 15 year old who just finished her freshman year of high school also. She also said she learned nothing from the online continuous learning. I really feel for all of the seniors graduating this year. Our local high school has put off graduation until mid July. Good luck this semester.
